A 6-year-old mare with six career races has died after suffering an injury in the starting gate at Los Alamitos Race Course, officials said Monday.
“The 6-year-old mare Kimberly’s Devil collapsed while being loaded into the gate for the third race Saturday night at Los Alamitos,” California Horse Racing Board spokesman Mike Marten told City News Service on Monday.
Marten added that the horse was “euthanized after she flipped in the gate.”
Kimberly’s Devil is the second horse to die from a racing or training-related injury in 2025, with two others dying from “other” causes, according to CHRB records.
The Cypress track saw 18 horses die from racing or training injuries in 2024.
