The driver of a Kia sedan was killed early Friday when a Buick SUV driven by a possibly impaired driver crashed into the car while it was on the right shoulder of the Ventura (101) Freeway in Calabasas.

The crash was reported at 2:01 a.m. on the southbound Ventura Freeway just south of Mureau Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A gray Kia sedan was parked on the right shoulder with two people inside when a gray Buick SUV veered to the right and crashed into the rear of the Kia, according to the CHP.

The two Kia occupants were taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center where the driver was pronounced dead, CHP Officer Erik Larsen told City News Service. The driver’s name was not released pending notification of relatives by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office, since the death was in that county.

The 19-year-old driver of the Buick was arrested on suspicion of murder and felony DUI, the CHP said.
