A pedestrian was critically injured Friday when she was struck by a Big Blue Bus in Santa Monica.

Officers responded at about 8:15 a.m. to the 2900 block of Pico Boulevard to investigate the reported crash.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the bus was … eastbound on Pico Boulevard when it struck an elderly female pedestrian in the roadway,” according to Lt. Lewis Gilmour of the Santa Monica Police Department.

The woman, believed to reside in the area, was taken to a hospital for treatment of critical injuries, Gilmour said.

The bus driver stopped as required and cooperated with the investigation. Drugs and/or alcohol were ruled out as factors in the crash, the lieutenant said.

The police department’s Major Accident Reconstruction Team was at the scene leading the investigation. Eastbound Pico remained closed between Dorchester Avenue and Stewart Street well past noon as the investigation continued.

No one on the bus was hurt.
