Metro will begin a weekend-long closure of Wilshire Boulevard Friday evening to accommodate final paving for the D (Purple) Line Subway Extension Project.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 6 a.m. Monday, Wilshire Boulevard will be fully closed between Western Avenue and St. Andrews Place. The closure will allow crews to conduct final paving work west of the Wilshire/Western intersection.

A detour route will be in place.

Drivers will be able to travel eastbound on Wilshire, then southbound on Crenshaw Boulevard, back east on Olympic Boulevard and northbound on Western and return eastbound on Wilshire.

Drivers heading westbound on Wilshire will head south on Western, west on Olympic, and turn north on Crenshaw, returning to westbound Wilshire.

Metro bus stops may be relocated and lines could be impacted. For information on changes to Metro service, customers are encouraged to call 323-GoMetro. Additionally, customers can use the Transit App to plan their travel, which can be found at www.metro.net/riding/rider-apps/.

According to Metro, all work during the weekend received necessary permits and approvals.

Pedestrians will be allowed to travel in the area with access outside of the construction zone. Access for emergency responders will be maintained as well.

The agency noted that construction is a dynamic process and may require additional updates throughout the weekend.

If the work cannot be completed by Monday, the agency may implement another closure on Aug. 22-25. A 24/7 hotline for information is available at 213-922-6934.
