The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the fourth consecutive day, decreasing 1.4 cents to $4.837.

The average price has dropped 5 cents over the past four days, including 1.2 cents each of the past three days, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

The four consecutive decreases follow a 12-day streak of increases totaling 26.4 cents that boosted the average price to its highest amount since April 10

The average price is 2.9 cents less than one week ago but 12.8 cents more than one month ago and 35.6 cents higher than one year ago. It has dropped $1.656 since rising to a record $6.493 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price also dropped for the fourth consecutive day, decreasing 1.9 cents to $4.781. It has dropped 7.3 cents over the past four days, including 1.6 cents Thursday.

The 11-day streak of increases totaling 28.6 cents that boosted the Orange County average price to its highest amount since April 9 ended Monday when it was unchanged.

The Orange County average price is 5 cents less than one week ago but 10.8 cents more than one month ago and 39.3 cents higher than one year ago. It has dropped $1.677 since rising to a record $6.458 on Oct. 5, 2022.

“Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices continue to be volatile as some local refinery maintenance continues, so it’s hard to know if this is a pause or a genuine downward trend,” Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager, said in a statement released Thursday.

“Oil Price Information Service expects gas prices nationally to drop as we head toward the Thanksgiving holiday and the colder time of year when demand typically drops, but California does not always follow the national price trend.”

A four-day streak of increases to the national average price totaling 1 cent ended when it was unchanged, remaining at $3.08. It is unchanged from one week ago, four-tenths of a cent higher than one month ago and four-tenths of a cent less than one year ago.

The national average price has dropped $1.936 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
