Damaged concrete caused a minor crash and major delays on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in the San Fernando Valley Wednesday morning as crews shut down two lanes for emergency repairs.
The original crash was reported at about 4:35 a.m. Wednesday just north of the Ventura (101) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
No one was injured, an officer said, but the loose concrete that damaged the involved vehicle left large gaps in the two right lanes and crews went to work making emergency repairs.
By 7:30 a.m., however, traffic was stop-and-go and the backup extended five miles to Nordhoff Street in North Hills.
It was not immediately clear how the concrete came loose in the first place, the officer said.
The repairs were complete and the Sigalert was canceled at about 8:30 a.m., according to the CHP.
