A 55-hour extended weekend lane reduction will begin Friday evening on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Whittier.

The closures on southbound 605 begin at 10 p.m. Friday, with a six-hour reduction to one lane until 4 a.m. Saturday, according to Caltrans.

Up to two southbound lanes will be closed from 4 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Sunday.

The southbound 605 will be reduced to one lane from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, when all southbound lane closures will end.

As for ramps, the eastbound and westbound Beverly Boulevard on-ramps to the southbound 605 will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday and the eastbound and westbound Whittier Boulevard on-ramps to southbound 605 will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

Additionally, the southbound 605 Whittier Boulevard off-ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

More 55-hour extended weekend lane reductions are scheduled through the remainder of 2026, according to Caltrans.

“Demolition of old freeway lane concrete occurs on Friday nights. On Friday night, Mar. 6, the demolition will occur on southbound I-605 from Beverly Boulevard to Whittier Boulevard. Residents and businesses located in this area may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with demolition activities.”

The work is part of the $260 million Super 605 freeway corridor projects to rehabilitate the freeway from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley.
