A new daily Pacific Surfliner roundtrip connecting Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo will begin service next month, expanding rail options for commuters, it was announced Monday.

The additional trip, launching May 4, will increase service levels from Los Angeles, including six daily trains to Goleta and three to San Luis Obispo, according to the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency.

“This new roundtrip improves connectivity across the corridor and offers riders a comfortable alternative to driving,” Jason Jewell, managing director of the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, said in a statement.

Officials said the added service will benefit Los Angeles-area commuters traveling to Ventura and Santa Barbara counties for work, school and business trips.

The Pacific Surfliner operates along a 351-mile coastal corridor linking San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, serving 29 stations.
