Three Metro D Line stations along Wilshire Boulevard will close for 10 days beginning later this month to allow crews to perform electrical infrastructure repairs, transit officials announced Friday.
The Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega stations will close at 2 a.m. Oct. 23 and are scheduled to reopen at 4 a.m. Nov. 2, according to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The closures will allow crews to perform electrical infrastructure maintenance at the Wilshire/La Brea station intended to improve the reliability of the subway system, officials said Friday.
Metro will operate special shuttle buses between the Wilshire/Western station and the three closed stations every 10 minutes during the shutdown to help passengers reach their destinations.
Regular service will also continue on Metro bus lines 20 and 720, which operate along Wilshire Boulevard.
The three stations opened May 8 as part of the D Line extension, expanding subway service westward from Wilshire/Western.
Metro officials said the need for the electrical work was identified before the stations opened, but obtaining the necessary replacement parts required additional time.
Rather than delay the opening, the agency implemented temporary measures that allowed the stations to begin operating while plans were made for permanent repairs.
Officials said opening the stations in May allowed passengers to use the extension about five months earlier than if Metro had delayed service until the electrical work was completed.
The temporary closure will allow the agency to complete the repairs and improve the system’s long-term reliability, according to Metro.
Despite the station shutdowns, previously scheduled activities at Wilshire/Fairfax will continue, including the weekly Tuesday farmers market, Bake to the Future on Oct. 25 and a Dia de los Muertos celebration on Halloween.
Activities at the Wilshire/La Brea station will be temporarily canceled during the closure and will resume after the station reopens.
Metro officials encouraged passengers to plan for additional travel time and use alternate transportation options during the shutdown.
