A construction crew working just east of Interstate 215 in Moreno Valley Thursday struck a gas main, causing a leak that prompted a partial road closure.

The breach was reported at 10:37 a.m. Thursday in the 22000 block of Alessandro Boulevard at Day Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency stated that a crew digging at the site for a construction project punctured the 1-inch diameter line, prompting immediate calls to 911.

No one was injured.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and secured the location, shutting off the gas, according to reports from the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies were summoned to implement a partial road closure along Day for public safety.

By 11:15 a.m., SoCal Gas Co. technicians were at the location, preparing to make repairs, which were expected to take about two hours, officials said.
