A middle-aged man standing in a roadway was killed in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash in Littlerock, authorities said Friday.

The victim was standing in the eastbound lane of Avenue T, near 85th Street East, when he was struck by a vehicle travelling at about 50 mph around 6:10 p.m. Thursday.

The driver of the vehicle, Ramon Cerena, 63, of Lancaster, did not have time to brake, but swerved in an effort to avoid the victim, who was struck by front right of the vehicle, California Highway Patrol Officer C. McMichael said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, despite the efforts of a good Samaritan, who performed CPR on him, McMichael said.
