A man was killed, and three other people were injured as a fully-engulfed house fire trapped a person inside the structure, in the Echo Park community of Los Angeles Saturday.

Paramedics rushed a man with burns, in critical condition, to an area hospital. Also, a male and a female with minor injuries declined transport and remained at the scene, said spokesman Erik Scott at the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A firefighter battling the fire suffered minor injuries, and was to be taken to a hospital in fair condition, Scott said.

Firefighters were dispatched at 8:20 a.m. to 1954 W. Kent St. and had the fire out at 8:55 a.m., he said. The address was later revised to around a streetcorner, to 804 N. Alvarado St.

A nearby motel on Alvarado Street was evacuated, and firefighters checked each room to make sure they were all emptied of guests.

Alvarado Street was block by fire engines between the Hollywood (101) Freeway and the north end of Echo Park.
