A section of the Angeles Crest Highway east of La Canada Flintridge will remain closed through early August due to rockslides and roadway damage caused by last weekend’s rainfall.

The 18.3-mile stretch of the highway, which is also known as state Route 2, is closed between Islip Saddle at the intersection of state routes 2 and 39 and Big Pines, Caltrans spokesman Patrick Chandler said.

“Caltrans has assessed the damage and is in the process of hiring a contract to repair the highway,” hesaid.

Those who trespass on the closed portion of the highway are subject to citation or arrest, he said.
