A man remained hospitalized in critical condition Thursday after he climbed a power pole in Hollywood, touched one of the live wires, causing a temporary outage in the area, and fell to the ground.

Officers saw the man in his 30s climbing the pole near the Western Avenue onramp to the Hollywood (101)  Freeway around 7 p.m., then falling, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Lopez said.

More than 2,700 customers were without power, according to the Department of Water and Power.

There was no evidence of foul play. It is suspected that the man was attempting suicide, Lopez said.

All power was restored by 10:20 p.m., according to the utility.
