A 47-year-old man critically injured in a stabbing attack in Garden Grove remained hospitalized Wednesday, and his former roommate was behind bars.

The stabbing occurred about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of residences for rent in the 11800 block of Fallingleaf Circle, according to Garden Grove police.

Daniel Negron Rivera, 57, of Garden Grove, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Sgt. Vincent Vaicaro said.

“The suspect fled the scene immediately following the incident but was apprehended by patrol officers nearby shortly after,” Vaicaro said. “The victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and is currently listed in critical but stable condition.”

The victim sustained stab wounds to the upper body, Lt. Tom DaRe said.

The two previously were roommates at a “room and board,” he said, but it was unclear what prompted the stabbing.
