Several dozen historic properties spread throughout downtown Riverside will be open for walk-throughs Thursday in a “Doors Open” celebration of the city’s past.

The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with guided tours beginning every 20 minutes at each location. Visitors can obtain maps and schedules at the Main Library, 3581 Mission Inn Ave.

“By opening the doors to these architectural gems, event organizers hope to increase awareness of historic architecture and the community’s collective heritage,” city spokeswoman Stephanie Harvey said.

Venues on the list include the Aurea Vista Hotel, the Bonnett Building, Eden Lutheran Church, First Congregational Church, the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, Municipal Auditorium and the Santa Fe Depot.

Some of the edifices are as old as the city itself.

The Camp Anza Officers’ Club is on the list. The renovated club is situated in the middle of a 30-unit affordable housing complex reserved for military veterans and their families. The location served as a World War II barracks and recreational stop for soldiers, then later, as a prisoner of war camp.

A total of 26 sites are on the Doors Open tour, which is free. More information is available here: www.doorsopenriverside.com .
