The Inland Empire and Coachella Valley thermostats were set to broil Sunday, as the National Weather Service sent out an “excessive heat warning” that may have felt a little obvious to residents.

At 2 p.m., temperatures in the desert hit 111 degrees in Thermal, 110 in Palm Springs and 114 degrees near Joshua Tree. In the Inland Empire, it was 105 in Corona, and 93 in Riverside, the NWS reported.

The heat warnings will be in effect through Monday night in the Coachella Valley as triple-digit temperatures continue to sizzle the region, the National Weather Service said Sunday.

The low desert could see afternoon highs topping 115 degrees in some places Sunday, according to the NWS.

Temperatures there were expected to drop a few degrees by Monday, but the slight cool-down will be almost imperceptible, the agency said.

The excessive heat warning was set to expire at 8 p.m. Monday.

Cooler places, like Temecula, were set to see clear skies and temperatures hovering in the 90s through next week. Even the coolest mountain places, like Idyllwild, were predicted to see highs of 87 degrees.

High temperatures Sunday will be 93 in Riverside, 111 in Palm Springs, 98 in Banning and 90 in Temecula, according to the NWS.

Cooling centers opened earlier this week throughout the county and locations can be found at www.capriverside.org .
