Firefighters have stopped progress of a brush fire that broke out Monday just northeast of Corona Municipal Airport, blackening 40 acres but not immediately threatening homes.
The non-injury blaze, dubbed the Rincon Fire, was reported about 3:15 p.m. in the area of Corydon and Rincon streets, according to the Corona Fire Department.
Crews from Corona, Riverside and Cal Fire worked to contain the fire, which prompted the closure of Auburndale Street from Palos Verde Drive to Rincon Street, Greenbrier Avenue and Rincon Street from Corydon Avenue to Alcoa Circle.
The fire scorched about 40 acres. Twenty-six engines were on site during its peak, along with one helicopter — from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, officials said.
No evacuations were ordered.
A smaller brusher started in the same general area Friday afternoon and was quickly knocked down. A homeless encampment was located near the spot, but there was no word on the cause of that blaze or the latest one.
The public was advised to call (951) 817-5800 for fire information.
