Authorities Wednesday identified a trucker who was killed in a collision involving his big rig and a pickup truck on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Pasadena.

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near Lake Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Jamie Delapaz, 60, of Fontana died at the scene, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported.

According to the CHP, Delapaz was driving a 2006 Freightliner truck in the No. 4 lane and a 54-year-old Temecula man was driving a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck in the No. 5 lane.

That’s when one of the motorists made a lane change “and there was an impact between the vehicles,” the CHP reported.

“(The Freightliner) veered to the right out of control, jackknifed, and traveled up the concrete embankment under the Wilson Avenue over-crossing before striking a tree and overturning on its side causing fatal injuries to its driver.”

The other driver stopped his truck safely, and was not injured.

The Lake Avenue offramp was closed for several hours while an investigation was conducted. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Altadena CHP office at (626) 296-8100.
