The Riverside County Fire Department announced a list of locations Wednesday where Coachella Valley residents can pick up sandbags to protect their homes from flooding.
With rainfall capable of causing flooding forecast in the region Thursday, authorities have arranged for sandbags and sand to be distributed at various locations in the eastern Coachella Valley, primarily at county fire stations.
Supplies will be available at the following locations:
— Coachella City Yard, 53462 Enterprise Way, for sand only;
— City of Indio City Yard, 83101 Avenue 45, for sand only;
— Fire Station 80, 81025 Avenue 40, Indio, for sandbags;
— Fire Station 86, 46900 Jackson St., Indio, for sandbags;
— Fire Station 87, 42900 Golf Center Parkway, Indio, for sandbags;
— Fire Station 88, 46621 Madison Street, Indio, for sandbags;
— Fire Station 32, 78111 Avenue 52, La Quinta, for sandbags and sand;
— Fire Station 70, 54001 Madison St., La Quinta, for sandbags and sand;
— Fire Station 93, 44555 Adams St., La Quinta, for sandbags and sand;
— Fire Station 39, 86911 Avenue 66, Mecca, for sandbags;
— Fire Station 40, 91350 Avenue 66, Mecca, for sandbags; and
— Fire Station 41, 99065 Corvina Road, North Shore, for sandbags.
Moderate to heavy rain is expected through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall totals over the previous four days include more than an inch recorded in Whitewater and Desert Hot Springs, and nearly an inch at Palm Springs International Airport.
