Authorities Thursday released the name of a motorist killed in a rollover wreck on Interstate 215 just south of Riverside that also left his friend with life-threatening injuries.
Andy Ralphie Acuna, 19, of Riverside was fatally injured about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday on northbound I-215, near Harley Knox Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Juan Quintero said Acuna lost control of a Honda Civic that overturned and slammed into an overpass. Both the driver and his friend were unrestrained and were thrown out of the sedan, landing on the freeway.
Quintero said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics pronounced Acuna dead at the scene. His passenger was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley with major injuries and remains hospitalized in serious condition, according to Quintero.
All northbound lanes of I-215 were shut down for about two hours because of the wreck.
