Two people who died in a multi-vehicle crash in Canyon Lake near Menifee were women from Lake Elsinore, authorities said Sunday.
Tina Slatten was 58, and was pronounced dead at 11:48 p.m. Friday at Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
Benita Heyden, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner said.
The crash happened at 9:54 p.m. Friday on Railroad Canyon Road west of Goetz Road, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Dominic Schreiber said.
An eastbound vehicle rear-ended another eastbound vehicle, Schreiber said.
“One of the vehicles then crossed over the center divider and collided with a vehicle traveling westbound,” he said.
The Riverside County Fire Department reported that four patients were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries, including two who were freed from wrecked vehicles using hydraulic rescue tools.
