One person suffered serious injuries Saturday when a van overturned on the Highway 86 Expressway near 76th Avenue in Thermal, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 5:07 p.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Witness told the California Highway Patrol a person was lying on the ground outside the van.
The patient’s injuries were serious enough to warrant airlift to a hospital, according to the CHP. All southbound lanes were shut down at 5:37 p.m. as the helicopter landed on the roadway.
One person was detained at the scene, but there were no further details, according to the CHP.
