A compact car skidded off a road and went down an embankment just southwest of Lake Mathews Wednesday, but the driver escaped uninjured, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 11 a.m. on Cajalco Road, just west of La Sierra Avenue.
The driver of the white Honda Civic apparently lost control while headed eastbound on the four-lane corridor and the car plunged over the side of the road, bringing traffic to a halt, the CHP reported.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location within a few minutes and found the driver out of the car and waiting on the shoulder of the road. He did not require medical treatment.
The CHP arranged for a tow truck with a cable to reel the damaged car back to the road.
No lanes were blocked because of the crash. However, the CHP said some motorists stopped to check on the Honda driver’s welfare.
