Crews Tuesday afternoon restored electricity to 901 customers in Coachella — after having restored an earlier outage — and power remained out for 45 customers in La Quinta, the Imperial Irrigation District reported.

Tuesday marked a series of power outages across IID’s service area, including multiple communities in both Riverside and Imperial counties.

An outage for 901 customers in Coachella was reported at 2:28 p.m., about two hours after IID officials announced power had been restored to the same amount of customers following another outage earlier Tuesday morning. Customers affected by the second outage saw their power reestablished less an hour later.

Power was reported out for 685 customers in La Quinta at 6:11 a.m., according to the IID, but shortly before noon, that number had been reduced to just 45 customers. No time frame was given on when electricity would be fully restored and IID officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

No reason for the outages was given, although the incidents occurred following a light rain that began last night and continued Tuesday morning throughout the Coachella Valley.

The city of Brawley in Imperial County, about 15 miles north of El Centro, saw 766 IID customers without power until 11:30 a.m. when power was fully restored.
