A box truck crashed on Interstate 10 in Beaumont Friday, flipping onto its side and spilling a load of appliances that prompted the California Highway Patrol to close all westbound lanes.

The crash occurred about 5:45 p.m. just east of Beaumont Avenue, according to the CHP.

The driver struck the center divider, and the truck went onto its side, ejecting air conditioners and other appliances onto the freeway, bringing all traffic to a halt, according to the CHP.

A fire erupted in the vehicle’s engine compartment, and Riverside County Fire Department personnel quickly knocked down the flames.

According to reports from the scene, two people were in the cab of the truck, but neither was seriously injured.

Officers closed the entire westbound side of Interstate 10 in the vicinity of the crash at 5:55 p.m.

The CHP opened a lane shortly after 6 p.m., but it was unclear when all lanes would be accessible.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
