A fire consumed a doublewide mobile home in Mead Valley Wednesday afternoon and spread to surrounding vegetation, quickly blackening about seven acres.
The blaze was reported about 3:20 p.m. near the intersection of Idaleona and Juniper roads, about two miles west of the Perris city limits, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine crews encountered flames raging in the mobile home and extending to high grass, moving quickly amid increasing afternoon winds, according to reports from the scene. A battalion chief estimated the fire could expand to 50 acres, and Cal Fire air tankers that had just returned to Hemet-Ryan Airport after battling a brusher just south of Riverside were recalled, going to the Mead Valley blaze.
At least one additional structure was threatened by the flames, which ate through a power pole at the mobile home, causing electrical lines to collapse.
There was no immediate word on how the fire started.
