A vegetation fire that erupted on the south edge of Perris scorched roughly four acres and was 30% contained Friday morning.
The non-injury blaze broke out for unknown reasons about 4:20 p.m. Thursday along Goetz Road, just north of Ethanac Road, close to the Menifee city limits, and prompted the closure of a stretch of Goetz Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Crews encountered flames burning at a moderate rate in thick, overgrown vegetation surrounding a natural waterway.
By 7 p.m., the blaze was 30% contained, and Goetz Road was reopened to traffic.
Firefighters from Hemet and Murrieta fire departments assisted Riverside County crews in battling the flames.
