A car plowed into a Moreno Valley house Tuesday afternoon, rupturing a gas line and prompting firefighters to evacuate the property and surrounding homes as a precaution.
The non-injury crash was reported about 3:25 p.m. in the 24000 block of Meadow Grass Way, near Sunnymead Ranch Parkway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The driver damaged the structure and split open the natural gas distribution line in the process, according to fire officials.
Five engine crews and a truck company, numbering more than 20 personnel, were sent to the location and soon after initiated the precautionary evacuations, asking occupants of a total of seven houses to go a safe distance away from the crash scene. Other residents were asked to shelter in place.
Southern California Gas Co. technicians were summoned and initiated repairs about an hour later. The line was secured shortly after 5 p.m., and repairs were expected to be completed by nightfall.
Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the cause of the crash.
