A fire that broke out Friday in an illegal marijuana grow in Good Hope was quickly knocked down before spreading into an adjacent homeless encampment.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Amelia and Yucca roads, southwest of the Perris city limits, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Officials said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and immediately confirmed the fire was in the middle of an outdoor cannabis cultivation site, with thick vegetation all around.
An itinerant camp was just yards away from the grow, and firefighters were able to prevent the flames from reaching an outbuilding and other lean-to structures, according to reports from the scene.
The blaze consumed less than a quarter-acre and was fully contained by 4:20 p.m.
Sheriff’s deputies were summoned to conduct an investigation and speak with individuals within the camp.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
No indoor or outdoor commercial marijuana cultivation sites have been approved in any county unincorporated communities.
