A blaze that erupted Monday in a Lake Elsinore home occupied by four people and several dogs damaged the upper floor of the structure and displaced the residents and their pets.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:40 p.m. in the 30000 block of Audelo Street, near Grand Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A half dozen engine crews were sent to the location and encountered smoke billowing out of the two-story house, from which three men and a woman, along with three or more dogs, escaped just prior to firefighters’ arrival.

Crews battled the flames for about 30 minutes before gaining the upper hand. The attic and roof were damaged, as well as contents on the second floor of the house, according to reports from the scene.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the occupants with finding temporary accommodations.

Southern California Edison and Gas Co. technicians were also summoned to shut down and make repairs to damaged utilities.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
