An unusually stubborn fire damaged a house in Riverside Monday, burned a man over 20% of his body, caused a quarter-million dollars in damage and made the structure uninhabitable, authorities said.
Firefighters were sent to the 9100 block of Admiralty Avenue about 2:25 a.m., according to the City of Riverside Fire Department. The fire in the single-story building was extinguished about 6 a.m., the fire department reported.
A 47-year-old man suffered second-degree burns to his head, arms and back, authorities said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. Damage was estimated at $250,000, and the building was red-tagged. The family of three, which was displaced, was assisted by the American Red Cross, authorities said.
