A vehicle fire spread to nearby vegetation along the Riverside (91) Freeway near Corona, prompting a partial closure of the State Route 71 connector while firefighters extinguish the flames.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fire was reported at noon on the eastbound side of the freeway.

A caller told a CHP dispatcher that a car ran into a barrel that was in the roadway and began dragging it, sparking the vehicle fire.

No injuries were reported, but CHP officers said the vehicle was fully engulfed by flames.

Riverside County firefighters were dispatched to the scene, and a Sigalert was issued at 12:18 p.m., closing the eastbound 91 Freeway connector to northbound State Route 71 for about an hour.
