A man who was riding a `homemade” motorcycle on a sidewalk without a helmet in Palm Desert when he crashed the bike remained hospitalized Monday in critical condition, sheriff’s officials said.

The accident was reported Sunday about 10:20 p.m. in the area of Portola Avenue and Chaparral Drive, according to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Vasquez. The man, who is between 35 and 45 years old, suffered a serious head injury, he said.

According to the sheriff’s department, the man, whose name was not released, was riding a “homemade” two-wheeler when he hit a rock and was ejected from the bike.
