A wildfire broke out Thursday on the west end of Perris, scorching 10 acres in 30 minutes and threatening several homes as firefighters deployed to contain it.

The non-injury “Navajo Fire” was reported about 4:45 p.m. in the area of Navajo Road and Highway 74, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

More than a dozen engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a rapid rate to the east, approaching properties along Park Avenue. Crews immediately established protective lines to prevent the fire from reaching the residences.

As of 5:15 p.m., the blaze was 10% contained and slowing down, according to reports from the scene.

There was no word on what might have sparked the brusher.
