A motorist killed in a collision involving his SUV and two big rigs on Interstate 215 in Riverside was publicly identified Friday.

Ricardo Rodriguez, 49, of San Jacinto was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 12:35 p.m. Thursday on northbound I-215 near Central Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Rodriguez was the sole occupant of the Ford Expedition that collided with the tractor-trailers, whose drivers escaped injury.

Officers shut down three of four northbound lanes to conduct a preliminary investigation, triggering a SigAlert. The closures remained in effect until about 5 p.m., after which the entire northbound side of the freeway was open again. No southbound lanes were closed.
