The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County was at its lowest amount for Labor Day since 2016 Monday, $3.18, due to a sharp drop at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The average price dropped 80.3 cents to $2.663, its lowest amount since Sept. 1, 2016, during a run of 56 decreases in 57 days between March 5 and April 30, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has increased 51.7 cents since then. It is four-tenths of a cent less than one week ago and 41.1 cents lower than one year ago, but 4.1 cents more than one month ago.

The average price has decreased 32.8 cents since the start of the year, including two-tenths of a cent on Monday.
