A man reportedly suffered a heart attack Sunday and crashed while driving on the Pomona (60) Freeway through the Badlands area, causing an hour-long traffic jam.
The vehicle crashed into a guardrail at around 12:20 p.m. on the westbound side of freeway east of Gilman Springs Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Emergency crews closed the number-one lane and a Sigalert was issued as gridlock extended all the way to Banning. The CHP reported that vehicles were making illegal U-turns on the freeway in an effort to escape the traffic.
The lane was reopened by 1:23 p.m.
The condition of the driver who crashed was not immediately available.
