A busted water pipe caused significant damage to the first and second floors of Riverside City Hall Wednesday evening.

Firefighters responded to the 3900 block of Main Street about 9:15 p.m. and found a one-inch, high-pressure water pipe that had burst in a second-floor bathroom, according to Battalion Chief Michael Staley of the Riverside Fire Department.

Crews were able to shut down water supply to the building, but the first and second floor of City Hall sustained significant water damage, Staley said.

“Fire crews performed water salvage to remove standing water from within the structure,” Staley said. “Sensitive electronics were moved out of harms way.”

City repair teams were tasked with fixing the broken pipe and additional cleanup, he said.
