A building at an abandoned prison in Desert Center caught fire Saturday.

The blaze was reported at 8:04 a.m. on the premises of the former Eagle Mountain Community Correctional Facility in the 1700 block of Desert Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire officials said six engine companies responded to the fire, which had fully engulfed a building.

The prison was closed in 2003 after a deadly riot broke out at the facility.
