Seven people were injured in a crash in Banning, authorities said Sunday.

It was reported just after 11 p.m. Saturday on the westbound 10 Freeway east of Highland Springs Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses told the CHP a Jeep went off the right shoulder into the bushes. Arriving officers reported the vehicle was on its roof, 40 feet off the roadway and that the top of the vehicle was on one person’s head.

Firefighters used hydraulic tools to get at least one person out of the vehicle, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Four people were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries and three had minor injuries, fire officials said.
