A wildfire that erupted Thursday on a hillside along the edge of the Lake Perris State Recreation Area in Moreno Valley blackened roughly five acres before crews stopped it.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 2:15 p.m. in the area of Colt Way and Shetland Lane, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Nearly 100 personnel were sent to the location and encountered flames behind homes on the border of the state preserve.
Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter were summoned to make runs on the brusher, which was completely contained by 5 p.m.
No homes or other structures were damaged, and no evacuation warnings were issued in connection with the brusher.
The cause was under investigation.
