A fifth-wheel trailer “exploded” Thursday morning in the unincorporated Nuevo area of Riverside County near Hemet, and a nearby truck and structure also caught fire.

A witness reported hearing a motor home-type vehicle explode prior to seeing black smoke, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The non-injury explosion was reported at 9:16 a.m. in the 28000 block of Reservoir Avenue, near 13th Street. Riverside County Fire Department firefighters responded and encountered a travel-trailer, pickup and an outbuilding ablaze.

The fire was fully contained by 11 a.m.

Fire officials later announced a 100-foot-by-100 foot pile of “rubbish” has also caught fire.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
