Huntington Beach’s civic center was briefly locked down Monday while police negotiated with a potentially armed suicidal individual, but the incident ended when the person surrendered peacefully, authorities said.
The Huntington Beach Police Department reported the incident at 9:58 a.m., tweeting that Huntington Beach High School, City Hall and the HBPD station were locked down and crisis negotiators were in communication with the individual.
An update at 10:06 a.m. said the suspect was “isolated to an area,” and the lockdown at the high school had been lifted.
Finally, police tweeted at 11:27 a.m. that “The individual has surrendered & was detained without incident. City Hall & the HBPD Station lockdowns have been lifted.”
A city spokesperson did not have any immediate details on the suspect or whether the person was armed.
