A fire that broke out Wednesday in manure piles at an agricultural site just west of Perris Valley Airport scorched roughly an acre before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 12:20 p.m. in the area of Goetz and Mapes roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine and water tender crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving slowly eastward in piles of the waste products.

No structures were threatened.

Firefighters deployed along the surrounding roads, fully containing the fire at 1:52 p.m., according to officials.

It was unclear specifically what ignited the blaze.
