An armed suspect who fired multiple shots at deputies is in a standoff with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies in East Los Angeles, the LASD reported Wednesday.

Deputies were called just before 2 a.m. to South Downey Road and Triggs Street regarding a call from a residence where a man was threatening to commit suicide. When the deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect shot at them multiple times from the residence, LASD Deputy Tracy Koerner told City News Service.

The LASD’s Special Enforcement Bureau and Crisis Negotiations Team were called to the scene to negotiate a possible surrender with the suspect. The suspect refused to surrender and shot at the deputies again, said Deputy Daniel Dominguez.

No residents have been evacuated.
