A 38-year-old man suspected of a fatal hit-and-run collision in Santa Ana was taken into custody Monday.
Officers responded at approximately 6:15 p.m. Friday near Standard and Warner avenues to reports of a collision involving a bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle that failed to stop, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
The responding officers, along with Orange County Fire Authority personnel, located the victim, identified as 60-year-old Francois Primeau of Irvine, lying in the roadway with significant injuries, police said.
Despite life-saving efforts, Primeau was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, Edjan Rocha, of Santa Ana, was taken into custody on Monday after turning himself in to the Santa Ana Police Department.
SAPD’s parking control officers located the suspect vehicle abandoned near Warner Avenue and Raitt Street, police said.
The vehicle was impounded as evidence, and Rocha was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Ana Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
