A two-alarm fire that broke out Thursday in a Lake Elsinore home tore through the residence, causing major damage and trapping two dogs, both of which were safely rescued by firefighters.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 3:20 p.m. Thursday at 610 W. Pottery St., near North Kellogg Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging toward the rear of the single-story structure.

The fire spread into the backyard, threatening to extend to a neighboring residence but was stopped within a couple of minutes by crews.

Two canines at the fire-damaged house were located by firefighters when they initiated a search for potential trapped victims and were carried to safety, reportedly unscathed.

The fire was completely knocked down shortly before 4 p.m.

Sheriff’s deputies shut down a one-block segment of Pottery for public safety.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
