Just when you thought summer was gone, guess again. Temperatures will begin heating up midweek and by the time the weekend arrives, it will be in the 80s at the beaches and even into the mid-90s in downtown Los Angeles and other inland areas.

The latest upcoming heat wave arrives just after some local areas of Southern California saw light rain and cooler temperatures Monday.

But forget about fall weather for now – we’re back to summer-like temperatures.

The National Weather Service forecast for Los Angeles and vicinity on Tuesday calls for sunny skies. Highs in the 70s to around 80.

Tuesday night it will be mostly clear. Lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s.

The forecast for Wednesday calls for sunny skies. Highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s. And it’ll be downright hot by Friday and through most of the weekend.

In Coastal Orange County the forecast for Tuesday calls for partly cloudy skies. Highs 73 to 78.

Tuesday night it will be mostly clear. Lows 58 to 63.

Wednesday it will be partly cloudy in the morning, then becoming mostly sunny. Highs 76 to 81.

The ultraviolet index level in the Los Angeles area for Tuesday is a moderate 6, according to the weather service. A moderate exposure level of 5-6 indicates that a person with a fair complexion could be safe from sun burn for 10-12 minutes, unless protected.
