While Friday will be brisk, you can head for the beach this weekend during a December pre-holiday mini-heat wave.

The National Weather Service forecast for Los Angeles and vicinity on Friday calls for partly cloudy skies with highs only in the mid to upper 60s.

Friday night it will be mostly clear. Lows in the mid 40s to mid 50s.

But inland daytime temperatures through the weekend will be in the upper 70s  – almost 80! – with sunny skies.  Local beaches will be almost balmy with daytime highs in the mid 70s. But bundle up if you’re going out Saturday night — low temperatures will remain in the brisk 40 and 50-degree range.

A high surf advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Friday afternoon to 4 p.m. Saturday in Coastal Orange County.

In Coastal Orange County the forecast for Friday calls for partly cloudy skies. Patchy fog in the morning. Highs around 68.

Friday night it will be partly cloudy, then becoming mostly clear. Lows 47 to 52.

Saturday it will be mostly sunny. Highs 72 to 77.

The ultraviolet index level in the Los Angeles area for Friday is a very low 3, according to the weather service. A reading of 3-4 is considered a low exposure level, reducing the danger range for those with fair complexions to 15-20 minutes if not protected.
